Angela was born and raised on Prince Edward Island and has always had a love of life and learning. After grade 11, Angela received an opportunity to leave her small-town high school behind and switch coasts, joining a United World College in Victoria, BC, where she earned International Baccalaureate. It was there she realized she lacked a complete set of executive functioning skills. While she cruised through school as a top student on the east coast, she quickly realized that listening in class and hoping for the best was not enough at this new level. After support from her solid-C-student sister, who worked to cultivate her own executive functioning skills, eventually flourishing as an A-student in university, Angela found her groove again.
Angela started her adult life with a degree in Commerce, Information Systems, in Quebec, and worked in advertising in downtown Toronto for four years. After realizing that education was her passion, Angela moved to Calgary and pursued her Education degree in Elementary Education, teaching and learning with the Rocky View School Division since 2004 and could not be happier.
Under her nearly 20-year teaching tenure, Angela’s positions have varied, satisfying her desire to keep learning, growing, and evolving as an educator. Angela has taught grades 4 to 8 in both English and French, and has also worked in Learning Support, where she has had the opportunity to work one-on-one with students struggling in a traditional classroom. Reading and math have always been a love for Angela, so being able to work with the reading intervention program at her school, using the Fountas and Pinnell system, was an absolute joy. The common thread seen by Angela in many of her struggling students was a lack of confidence and a feeling of helplessness. Angela’s ultimate goal is to help each student discover their own learning groove so they can thrive with confidence.
