Customized Strategies Give Kids with ADHD the Tools They Need to Soar!
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that’s characterized by persistent patterns of inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity.
But ADHD is more than that, and a big part of the picture is something we call executive functioning skills. In fact, ADHD is not a deficit of attention, it’s an abundance of attention. The challenge is controlling the misdirected attention.
Executive functions are cognitive processes that help us regulate, control, and manage our thoughts and actions. Often referred to as the brain’s management team, they continuously develop from birth through adulthood. They include:
Working Memory
Your brain’s sticky note to help you keep track of and juggle multiple pieces of information all at once.
Planning & Prioritizing
Your brain’s personal assistant to help you map out your tasks and decide which ones need to be tackled first.
Organization
Your brain’s personal tidy-upper, arranging thoughts and tasks neatly so you can find them when you need them.
Time Management
Your brain’s wristwatch to help you estimate how long tasks will take so you can stay within time limits and meet deadlines.
Self-Awareness
Your brain’s backstage pass, giving you the ability to step back and understand how you think and learn.
Impulse Control
Your brain’s little traffic cop that helps you pause, think, and then act, rather than just reacting on a whim.
Emotional Control
Your brain’s cool-headed friend, helping you manage your feelings and keep your cool, even when things get tricky.
Focused Attention
Your brain’s spotlight, helping you tune out distractions and shine a light on what really matters in the moment.
Task Initiation
Your brain’s personal coach, giving you that starting whistle and the kick you need to get things rolling.
Self-Motivation
Your brain’s personal cheerleader, giving you the pep talk and energy boost to keep going, even when the going gets tough.
Flexible Thinking
Your brain’s own shape-shifter, helping you adapt your thinking and problem-solving approach when situations change or get tricky.
People with ADHD often struggle with these executive functions. They might lose track of tasks, have trouble sticking to plans, get sidetracked easily, or struggle with organizing their time and materials. This can make school, work, or just day-to-day life feel like climbing a mountain.
Here’s how we help: First, we use the MindPrint ‘learning profile assessment’ to pinpoint your child’s executive function strengths and areas for improvement.
Then, using the objective cognitive data from the assessment, we build a coaching plan that’s tailored just for your child. With a personalized plan in place and a coach to provide the necessary support and tools, your child can begin to unleash their learning Superpowers!
What Parents and Students Say About Their Experience
Kaizen is amazing. The front end evaluations show specific areas of strengths for each individual learner, and identify key ares needing support. The Individual learning plans they develop have specific and easy to implement strategies that really work! Probably the best money we’ve ever spent!! So glad to have found them.
I am so thankful for the study skills, learning tactics, and time management skills that Kaizen taught me. Every semester I plan how to study for each of my classes using Kaizen’s strategies. These strategies allowed me to achieve a balanced lifestyle and academic success.
Kaizen has helped me become a better student by improving my study habits and organizational skills. I don’t know where I would be today without Kaizen!
