Dylan brings 12 years of experience in teaching, coaching, and learning alongside people with unique needs. For the past 9 years, he has delivered online, blended, and in-person education to a diverse range of students in public, charter, and private schools.
Since finishing secondary school, Dylan has been involved with coaching through the lens of sports. He has coached football, rugby, track and field, cross-country, soccer, and basketball. Coaching is a means of approaching people in a way that is uniquely specific to their interests. Approaching students from a holistic angle to implement routines and strategies that will directly impact their interests will cast ripples into other dimensions of interest. His interest in brain functioning is greatly impacted by the serious effects of concussions on players (himself included), developing an understanding of the brain will serve how we see sports and explore the repercussions of shaking that golden noggin’ we all have.
One of the first jobs Dylan ever took was working as a respite worker for teens on the spectrum, from here he discovered a passion for teaching especially the teamwork it takes to implement a success plan. Communicating with specialists, coaches, parents, and most importantly the student is the surefire way to scaffold success. Since then Dylan has explored his areas of interest as a literacy specialist, a resource assistant, a special education teacher, and now as an executive skills coach!
Dylan thrives on learning, actively seeking out new areas to explore and extend his learning so that he can empower others with his practical research, expertise, and unique approach to brain-based coaching. Exploring areas of interest like 3D Design and Manufacturing, or exploring how gamification can impact learning have been areas of continued growth most recently. Now, more than ever, he believes that well-developed executive skills will be the key to our students’ success in learning and life! How else do you keep learning and growing? To that end, his favourite art form is the Art of Failure. The more we fail the further we can go!
“There is no substitute for work. Worthwhile results come from hard work and careful planning.”
